ODMF History

*Began in 1998 – Director – Rob Hennig, Registrar – Lynne Smith                                 Festival was held at Westminster United Church, Orangeville

Gala Concerts May 9, 1998 were held in two locations:                                                         Afternoon – Orangeville Opera House; Evening – Westminster United Church

Gala Participants: Orangeville Interchurch Children’s Choir, Albany Tremblay, Ian Moor, Adrian Newcomb, Allison Price, Jane Lanktree, Stephanie Moore, Stephanie & Pamela Scott, Ben Darwin

*1998 to present - the Sanctuary piano tuning has been graciously donated to the Festival by Lee Tocher of Tocher Pianos, Hillsburgh

*1999 to present – The Gala Concert has been held at Westminster U.C., Orangeville.  For Westminster's support, the proceeds from the Gala Concert have been donated to Westminster.

*2002 – Rob Hennig resigned from the Festival and a volunteer committee was formed. Members were Lynne Smith-Registrar, Shirley Jemmett, Joylyn Bell and Jill McNicol

*2006 – under the direction of Martin James, Minister of Music at Westminster U.C., a decision was approved by Worship & Sacrament Action Group to support the Orangeville & District Music Festival by providing space and some administration. It was acknowledged that the Festival was an organization which opened Westminster's doors to the community as a musical outreach.

*2007 –The Festival celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a new award for the Most Promising Musician which is presented each year to a participant chosen by the adjudicator.

ODMF Alumni, Pamela Scott (actress/singer) performed at the Gala Concert; she spoke about how the festival gave her the opportunity to perform and hone her skills.

*2008 – Martin James, Minister of Music, WUC, became a committee member and through his support, Westminster United Church became a recognized supporter.

*2009 – Mercedes Mabee, an ODMF Alumni, and Michelle Posteraro became a Committee Members.

*2010 - Emily Newton & Callum Boland received a certificate from Adjudicator, Debra Wanless to attend Summer Sizzle Camp. Mercedes Mabee resigned from the committee to attend university and Susan Moritz joined the ODMF Committee.

*2011 - Jill McNicol resigned from the committee due to her failing health.

At the Gala Concert, she was acknowledged for her invaluable contributions to the Festival. A Jill McNicol Scholarship was presented in honour of Jill's work, dedication and support of the festival. Debra Wanless donated a 50% discount certificate to attend the Summer Sizzle Keyboard Camp (balance paid by ODMF).

*2012 - Celebrated the 15th Anniversary of the Festival. A commemorative music bag was presented to all participants and a celebratory reception was held after the Gala Concert. An ODMF Alumni, Conrad Gold, performed at the Gala Concert; he spoke about his musical journey and delighted the audience with his performances on piano and organ.

ODMF Website was created: www.odmf.ca  In support of the Festival, Bill Elliott of Broadway Engraving, set up the website and helps maintain the site.

ODMF Alumni, Conrad Gold (organist/pianist), performed at the Gala Concert; he spoke about his musical journey and delighted the audience with his performances on piano and organ.

*2013 – ODMF was nominated for a Creative Cultural Event Award at the Mayor’s Breakfast for the Arts. Michelle Posteraro resigned and Jane Lanktree, an ODMF Alumni, joined the committee.

Debra Wanless donated a 50% discount certificate to attend the Summer Sizzle Keyboard Camp (balance paid by ODMF) awarded to Jonathan Lane-Smith.

October 27th - The Power of Music ODMF Fundraising Music Concert held at Westminster United Church on Sunday at 7:30 pm. MC: Gary Vipond; Performers: Rhythumfoot (Chanda & Frank Leahy and family); Heather Katz;  Jonathan Lane-Smith; Hannah Shelton Campbell with Heidi Allen and Stan Elliotson, accompanied by Mary Runcimann; Will Devonshire; Mark DuBois with Elizabeth DuBois & Graham Maycock; Bells of Westminster; Candescence; Nathanael Pollard; Barbara Cooper with Linda MacGregor, Flute and Shirley Jemmett, Piano; Leisa Way & Bruce Ley.  Proceeds went to the ODMF Scholarship Fund.
